Suffolk’s New Plan To Help Drug Users

I am proud to announce that yesterday my office, in partnership with substance use experts, launched a new program to further incentivize drug treatment for those addicted to drugs and who are arrested for low-level non-violent crimes. This program is a seismic shift in the paradigm and is designed to dramatically increase the number of defendants accepting treatment. This is exactly the type of smart policies that I campaigned on, and am proud to have stood with substance use experts and the legal community adding yet another tool in our arsenal to combat the drug epidemic plaguing so many of our communities. We will continue to implement policies that incentivize treatment for those who are suffering from substance use disorder and aggressively target drug dealers who are selling poison in our communities.
